NLSA Hosts Women’s Month Celebration Webinar

The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) held a special Women’s Day Celebration Webinar on 12 August 2025, under the theme “She Writes, We Listen – Online Readings Honouring Women’s Voices”.

The virtual event was all about honouring the creativity, resilience, and legacy of women writers across generations and genres. Participants were engaged in storytelling, readings, and reflections that celebrated the diverse voices of women who have shaped literature, history, and society.

In her welcome address, Interim CEO of the NLSA, Ms Mandisa Tshikwatamba linked the event theme to the national Women’s Month theme, “Building Resilient Economies for All”. She highlighted the importance of inclusivity and women’s active participation in nation-building: “I want to say indeed we are part of this theme of building resilient economies for all; this is a theme that has an overarching message, a message of purpose, a message of commemoration, and a message of promoting women’s participation and representation”.

The programme created a platform for dialogue and inspiration, reminding participants about the importance of preserving women’s stories as part of the nation’s cultural heritage. It also highlighted the important role that libraries play in amplifying under-represented voices and ensuring that future generations continue to draw strength from the wisdom of women writers.

The event reaffirmed the NLSA’s dedication to creating inclusive platforms where stories, especially those of women, are valued, preserved, and celebrated.
